How it works
This calculator uses model rates from the pricing dataset to estimate token usage. Your final OpenRouter bill can also depend on credit purchase fees, provider routing, and the chosen endpoint. It is not a checkout quote.
Keep the workload fixed when comparing models. Review the route and provider used in your request logs, then compare the estimate with actual billed usage. A fallback may use a different rate; account for it separately.
Worked example
Comparing two summarization options
For 5 million input and 1 million output tokens per month, an illustrative model at $1.25 input and $10 output per million costs $16.25. Another at $0.30 input and $1.20 output costs $2.70, a $13.55 difference before fees. These are assumed rates, not named-model quotes. Switch only after checking summary accuracy and the cost of retries.
